Task 3 - Be able to pitch a media production proposal using appropriate technology

Presentation

Task 2 - Be able to create a report in a media production context

Audience research

The audience is important as it allows for media products to gain money. This can be an example for movies as they use money to make the movie and promote to the audience so they can buy tickets to watch it. The movies then hope that enough people in the public watch it so they can gain a profit. This is why they spend so much money to promote a product. This can also be used for music videos as a video that is released needs views from their target audience and also needs people to buy their records for them to gain money.
A mass audience is a large audience that is targeted by the makers of a media product. This is usually done to gain more money and views An example of this is could be a television program such as a soap opera. This is because they are targeted to most people as they try to have material on their shows which can satisfy different kinds of audiences such as teenagers, families and adult. This is done by a lot of companies as they are then able to gain more money from this kind of audience. A niche audience is the opposite to a mass audience. This means that the makers of the product try to target it to a small audience. This can be done to cater peoples specific likes in a show. An example of a program could be custom my ride or pimp my ride for car lovers. This only really interests them as they like those kinds of programs. This type of audience could also be targeted when doing local news shows as they can show main news stories from the area which a person is in. An example of this could be midlands today. The media can can influence the behaviour of the public as they can show stuff on television or print stuff on newspapers that affect the publics way of life such as what they eat or how they sleep. This has been done when there is an outbreak of a disease which is then shown on a media product as is made to look worse than it actually is. An example of this could be the swine flu out break which lead the media to create a craze for the public on what is acceptable to eat and what is not. This shows how the media is able to create unrest in the mind of the public and cause them to alter their behavior in some way.

Marketing

Marketing is the action of promoting or selling products or services. After we have created our TV advertisement we will have to get a TV spot for it so it is shown on peoples televisions. One of the advantages of advertising on television is that the advertisement is more likely to be shown to people who are in our target audience. This could be by picking a television station which is watched most likely by our target audience. This makes it more likely that our target audience watches the advertisement. Another advantage is that there is still a strong viewership meaning that people outside of our target audience may also be interested in our products. One disadvantage of this is that it may cost a lot to advertise on television stations especially specific television stations which are likely to gain a strong viewership of our target audience.

It is important that the document is proof read. This is important so there are no mistakes that are shown which would make the company seem small and inadequate if they make simple mistakes which result it also looking unprofessional. There also needs to be correct spelling and grammar and also needs to be proof read to make sure there are no spelling or grammar mistakes.

Task 1 - Be able to extract information from written sources

When creating an advertisement, there needs to be some research that is done using external sources. These sources then require us to extract information that is relevant to the advertisement production.

These are examples of websites which i used to extract information.

BANK – Fashion:

The bank fashion website has a large portion of the website page taken up by a board that has images of the existing products. The colours that are used to advertise these products are bright and fun which will automatically attract people from the ages of 16-23, because at this age people are really into fashion and things that look good. The website itself I think really appeals to people of that age because the website has cool magazine style pages and also has many images of the fashionable products like their onesises. This will be good research for our actual production because our brand, #JustWear, is all about attitude and having something to wear quickly but still be stylish, like the onesises on the Bank fashion website.

CHAMELEON – Fashion:
Chameleon is also a good website because it is appealing to people of the ages that have been specified. As this is a menswear brand it is appealing to men because it looks good and it is more appealing to men at the age of their 20’s as they have sensible clothing like t shirts, but also have clothing that is a bit wild and appealing to some people that like things like bands and other specific things. The website itself also is similar to the Bank fashion website in the way that the website has a middle section at which there is a moving image that takes up the width of the website, and the images change to show the different clothing types, like t-shirts, shorts and other different clothing types.

Here is an example of adverts in magazines:

These adverts usually include images that take up the whole page of a magazine. They do not have much writing but include an image which would make the people flicking through the magazine look at it as it would be eye catching. This is shown in the advertisement above.

Here is an advertisement from a newspaper.

This shows that the newspaper advertises things on one or two of the pages of the newspaper. All kinds of people are able to use the newspaper to advertise their company or product. The advertisements are usually all squashed together as shown above which means that it is harder to see them.

Skim reading

Skim reading is a process of speed reading that involves a person reading through the sentences of a document to look for clues about what the document is about. Some people can naturally do this while some have to practice this. It is more likely that adults do this compared to children. Another form of skim reading is the person skipping through bits of information that is not interesting to them or is not relevant to them. This is most commonly used my internet users.
One advantage of skim reading is that it saves a person who reads it, time which means that this is a very good and effective study method as it saves a student time when reading their study books. This is also a useful method to students when they have an exam where they have to read a long extract of writing in a very short amount of time. This is also a skill which can be very useful during the day to day life of a person as it saves them time when reading things such as letters.
However a disadvantage of this could be that when skim reading, the person may miss out important details which then result in important information getting missed. Also sometimes the person may have to re read the passage so they are able to take it in and understand it properly.
